SSL

Transport Layer Security (TLS) and Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), are cryptographic protocols that provide security for communications over networks such as the Internet.

The Secure Socket Layer protocol was created to ensure secure transactions between web servers and browsers. The protocol uses a third party, a Certificate Authority (CA), to identify one end or both ends of the transactions.

SSL certificates are digitally "signed" by a certificate authority, and are used to confirm the identity of a secure website or server, encrypt data during transmission, and therefore, ensure the integrity of transmitted data.

Any website that accepts credit cards should be secured with a SSL certificate.
